About Us
Hi there! Tactical Financials is a blog designed to inform and educate on a wide range of financial topics. I’m currently an Active Duty Air Force member with a wife, kid, and 3 four-legged friends. We’re at max capacity for living things inside the house. I started investing in money market savings accounts back in 2005 (4% interest in a savings account was sweet). Once in college I found myself with a couple thousand dollars after saving and decided to invest in stocks around 2011. I had no clue what I was doing and unfortunately had the worst mistake and got lucky and tripled on a stock. Don’t worry that “triple” only made me $120. Naturally, this made me the next Warren Buffett and I could do no wrong. Luckily I didn’t get too crazy and put most of it in blue chip stocks and left them in there ever since. Once I joined the military and was making money I was given the advice to start a Roth IRA, I had no clue what such a thing was, so, I did it anyways. This kind of triggered the fact that the military really didn’t give much advice on retirement investing or saving. Sure there is a pension but only 61% of military members participate in their version of the 401k (The Thrift Savings Plan). This just started a firehose of trying to learn more about how this worked, which spread to other financial decisions, budgeting, and everything else involved. In 2017 I decided to start Tactical Financials and offer advice with the military member in mind. Welcome and thanks for being here.
